Welcome to the Jayhawk Media Workshop!

KU will host its 56th annual high school journalism workshops from June 7-11, 2020 on the KU campus in Lawrence.

Important Dates

  • January 2020: Registration opens
  • April 28, 2020: All financial aid materials due to the JMW office
  • May 2, 2020: Registration price is raised to $475
  • May 22, 2020: last day to register for the workshop
  • May 30, 2020: Deposit payment is due
  • June 7, 2020: first day of workshop
  • June 11, 2020: final day of workshop

Residential workshop

The cost for the residential workshop this summer is $425 (until May 1st), which includes . . .

  • guidance and teaching from a great staff of journalism instructors
  • social activities in the evenings
  • a fancy-schmancy camp t-shirt
  • meals from Sunday evening to Thursday morning including a pizza dinner and a picnic cookout
  • double occupancy lodging at our residence hall
  • a camp water bottle

Commuter workshop

The cost for the commuter workshop this summer is $425, which includes . . .

  • the choice of one of our excellent courses
  • a camp t-shirt
  • water bottle.

Adviser workshop

The cost for the adviser workshop this summer is $300, which includes . . .

  • the choice of one of our excellent courses
  • a chance to spend time with fellow advisers during meal times and instruction
  • all meals
  • a camp t-shirt
  • and a water bottle

Advisers must arrange their own hotel stay, most conveniently and economically at TBA.


  • (before May 2nd) Early Registration (commuter and resident students): $425 per student
  • (after May 2nd) Regular Registration (commuter and resident students): $475 per student
  • Adviser workshop: $300 per adviser
  • Scholarship recipients: only pay $50 non-refundable deposit. All other costs are covered!


  • Credit Card: Payment is available by credit card during the registration process.
  • By Check: Or, you can mail a check to the Jayhawk Media Workshop office at “Jayhawk Media Workshop, 318 Stauffer-Flint Hall, 1435 Jayhawk Boulevard, Lawrence, KS 66045.”

JMW is committed to preparing journalists from all backgrounds for the work they do on their campuses and in their careers. In 2019, JMW and the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communication at KU again will offer multicultural and need-based scholarships.

    Adviser workshops Teachers who accompany their students can enroll in any of our courses to sharpen their skills or learn something brand new.

    Scuba Diving Just kidding . . . we don’t do that. But we do offer fun social activities each night for you to meet fellow campers.
