There’s a lot more to social media than posting. Social platforms are a rich source of ideas, inspiration and insight when you use them to listen as well as speak. We’ll consider how you can leverage this powerful two-way platform to discover story topics, diverse sources and fresh perspectives.

Angie Hendershot is a professor of the practice who teaches courses for KU’s strategic communications concentration, online Digital Content Strategy certificates and the Integrated Marketing Communications master’s degree program. Before coming to KU in 2016, she spent 25 years in PR, advertising, digital media and marketing strategy leadership roles at Fortune 500 companies. She loves facilitating learning communities of all types and believes in the power of humility, curiosity and empathy to build great communicators.

These sessions will present students with new ideas that they are unlikely to have encountered in the high school classroom. These are not software sessions. Instead, the sessions will present new ways of being a journalist or communicator in 2021 and provide lots of take-away examples that can motivate students when they return to school in the fall. Inspiration sessions last 45 minutes each via Zoom.
