During these sessions, students will share their work with our instructors to receive a critique of their work and make goals for “next steps.” Those next steps might be the next book to read, the next skill to practice or the next challenge for your staff. The “next step” session could be:

Kerry Benson has taught 3/4 of the courses in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas, as she came to KU with professional experience in both news and strategic communication. Media Writing, the first writing course in the School, and Stand and Deliver, the school’s presentation skills class, are Benson’s favorites to teach. They rate right up with her most-cherished food group: cookies.
Patricia Gaston teaches writing and reporting at KU. She spent nearly 40 years as an editor most notably at the Washington Post and the Dallas Morning News. At the DMN she was co-editor of a 1994 Pulitzer-prize winning project on violence against women.
